Denise

You'll never guess what came in the mail. Never ever ever!....don't ya at least wanna try? Okay, I'll wait a few lines for you to guess...

Done?

How about now?

In today's mail, I received a set a Denise Interchangeable Knitting Needles! I screamed (in the middle of the post office mind you) and there was some dancing involved. At least till people started asking if I was having a seizure.

My mom wrote into a contest Anne Kaelber was having on her blog, and she won me these INCREDIBLE needles! I still I can't believe I own my own set of Denise needles. I keep opening the box and petting them. They're so pretty. I'm afraid to take them out. So, so pretty...

Thank you so much Mama! I love you very much! And thank you Anne. I keep getting all teary eyed because of your generosity. I feel very blessed, very special and very loved. I can't say thank you enough.

Yarn, Piper, Caspian and also toilet paper.

I've been trying to get knitting done, but it's so hard to do when this is going on in the next room.

Pa161681_1

Pip's jealousy is slooooowly fading. She doesn't want any extra attention, treats, or love. She's still very angry that we would replace Romeo. I think it's gonna take her a while to forgive us.

Caspian has proved to be more of a handful than Piper at this age, but in a totally different way. Apparently the difference between raising boys and girls also applies to cats. Where Piper was into trying to see how crazy she could make me and how much sleep she could deprive me of, Caspian is into seeing how much damage he can cause.

Pa181696_1

The toilet paper never had a chance.

He's far more physical than Piper. Chewing on everything and jumping on anything that moves. He especially loves anything that dangles. Yarn, the waist ties on my sleep pants, bra straps, yarn, the strap on the camera, shoe laces, yarn, cords, yarn, yarn...

Pa171695_1

The one thing Casp does do that is totally different from Piper is he sleeps...and sleeps...and sleeps. All night! When Pip was this age, she didn't sleep and neither did I.

Small amounts of knitting have been done, but it's really hard to knit when you have a kitten chewing on your needles.

This is supposed to be the cuff of one of the sleeves on the Shimmer Shrug from Knitty.com. I think I'm gonna frog it and start over...again. It's just a twee bit too big.

Pa221699_1

I knitted this hat out of Debbie Bliss, but it looked really plain, so I decided to try my hand at embroidering. I think I still need more practice.

I've been knitting on other projects too like Nick's sweater and a few scarves for Christmas gifts. The thing I really need to do is organize the ol' stash.

Help...

May 22, 2006

I was told I must or else there would be civil unrest, and it would unbalance the force!...

...or something to that effect.

Here's the picture of Pip that was demanded: Her wearing a baby bolero (well, an almost finished one) in a non neutral color ;)

P5221113

Because it was so easy to make, I started another baby bolero lastnight. It's knits up SO fast. This one is made out of Bernat's Satin in Sea Shell. It's is not for Piper though. As soon as I took this picture, she woke up and started chewing on it.

May 18, 2006

So cute that I may weep when I part with it.

I promised pictures of the baby bolero, and here they are =)

The last shot was just to show you in perspective how small it really is. I swear Pip hasn't been wearing it (Though I'm sure Annie won't believe me ;)

Thomas Kinkade's last stand

Mini_con_artist_in_the_making

It's a good thing she's so darned cute. Otherwise I'd be tempted to close the box up and mail her home. This week in the white, white world of Pip we've been pitching fits. She's decided that she can no longer stand the presence of the Thomas Kinkade puzzles and has taken to hurling her small body across the dining room table in order to shove the puzzles off.

La_pip

I fear for my puzzles.

She goes in to be spayed on the 10th of May. I'm alternating between skipping around the house joyously and squeezing her tight and crying because nobody's touching MY BABY.

Knitting has been going on =) I'm almost finished with I think the tenth Dulaan hat, but progress had be halted because do you remember me telling you about my friends Norman and Bridget who were trying to get pregnant? Well, their baby is due in October! They're leaving Okinawa June 11th, so I have to finish my projects very fast. I've been working on the baby bolero from the book One Skein. It's so cute! I promise pictures when I'm done =)

The Dulaan Dozen...well, almost.

Look! 7 1/2 hats!

P4021000

P4021001

I'm so happy that I'm almost there =D Now I'm beginning to think I'll try for twenty. No promises on that yet, but we'll see. Yay hats!

Knitting Dulaan

P3020953

See the cables? These are my first two and half Dulaan hats =) I'm gonna finish the last cabled hat, and I've got a new goal. By then end of June, I want to have one dozen hats to send to Dulaan. I got the e-mail the other day of all the little kids wearing their news hats, and it made me so happy I cried (I'm still crying thinking about it). So, twelve hats. I don't know if I'll make it, but even if I only get a few done that's still a few more kids who will be warm and that's all that matters =)

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Knitting Olympics and a big cheer for team Michigan!

"She may have to settle for the silver Chuck."

Friday morning, 9am

"Today we'll be looking at Kate's quest for knitting gold. Now her program was pretty simple and straight forward: Knit three hats for the Dulaan project by the end of the Olympics. Not tough, but just knitting three simple hats is definitely not medal worthy."

"Chuck, her first hat was very simple and straight forward. She received good marks on the technical aspect, but it was certainly not what the judges were hoping for. Especially from a seasoned hat knitter. For her second hat, she decided on a pattern that would be quite a challenge for her: A hat that was completely cabled."

"Kate's never done cables in competition before Bob. She dropped a few techinical points, but she certainly made up for it with her high artistic marks. That hat gave her the push into silver medal standings, but it wasn't quite enough to give her the gold, so for her third hat she chose a complicated pattern. A hat with a cabled band around the bottom. It doesn't sound hard, but the cabled band is knitting first, joined into a circle and then stitches are picked up from the edge and used to complete the hat. For an inexperience cabler this could spell disaster. She started this hat with about six days to go. Everything was going fine until she got a bit flustered, and her cables started getting closer and closer together. She had to rip back at least four times that we caught on tape and there are rumors she had to a few more times. This was valuable time she lost and in the end she gave up and kept going with the smaller cables mixing with the bigger cables."

"Chuck, this will definitely cost her precious points, but she still has a chance if she can just finish the hat before the closing ceremony on Sunday! Can she do it?"

Monday morning, 3am

I didn't make it =( No gold for me. I am almost done with the cable, but haven't started the hat yet and...yeah. I guess I'll just have to be happy with my silver.
