No Sheryl Crow, change will not do me some good.

I'm having mixed feelings about moving in December. When it comes to moving, I don't deal with the change. At all. I deal with moving about as well as a cat dangling over a tub full of water. It's not that I'm not excited about moving back to the States, because I really, really am excited about going home to US soil, it's just that the anticipation of going to a new place makes me anxious (Did I ever mention I'm just slightly OCD? Just a little. A teeny little bit.) If I could wrap my entire apartment in brown paper and take it with me, I would.

My neighbor of two years is leaving the island forever on Saturday (Did I mention that I don't deal well with other people moving away too? No? Because I don't.) I've tried to talk her out of it, "No Kali! You can't leave! Who will play cards with me at odd hours of the night while Mike is working? Who will have coffee with me in the mornings? How will Caspian survive without your toes? I don't wanna break in a new neighbor!" but she just won't listen. Something about needing to be with her family. Bleh.

I'm gonna miss Kali. I know we'll still be friends long distance, but it doesn't make the sad stop. We've been neighbors for a long time, and she's been there for me through a lot of crazy stuff, and I'll miss not having her next door to me.

I'll miss you Kali. I hope that Maine treats you very well, or I will hafta kick it's butt (Also come visit me!)

Party like it's 2999.

On Friday, we had a birthday party for Mike. A small bbq with some friends. It was a lot of fun. We were up way too late, ate way too much cheesecake and played the Wii till we passed out.

I'd say it was a roaring success =)

Pushing Back

*I'm so tired of people telling me that I'm a pushover. Yes, I am. I will be the first to admit it. I try not to be. I really, really do, but I was born incredibly shy person, and I fight with that person everyday. It has taken me years to be where I am today. 5 years ago, if you asked me order food at a drive-through window, it would have caused a massive panic attack.

That's not even what bothers me the most. Lately, people have been telling me what a horrible pushover mother I'm going to be. How my children will run rough-shot over me, and I will be powerless to stop it. That is not even remotely fair. They use Colin as an example because he likes to pitch fits for me, but...

  1. He's not my baby.
  2. I don't have the authority to discipline him in any other way except timeouts.
  3. He is an only child who has been indulged in his every whim.
  4. He's NOT MY baby.

I will be a kick ass mommy. I know I will be. No, I'm sure I won't be perfect, but they make it sound like I'm going to pushed around by my kids while they are still in utero. At least give me a chance before you decide on what my mothering abilities will be like. I'm so sick it, and I'm not going to be pushed around about it.

I will be an awesome mommy. End of story.

*This isn't about any of my friends back home, or about any one online. It deals with people I see every day.

Denise

You'll never guess what came in the mail. Never ever ever!....don't ya at least wanna try? Okay, I'll wait a few lines for you to guess...

Done?

How about now?

In today's mail, I received a set a Denise Interchangeable Knitting Needles! I screamed (in the middle of the post office mind you) and there was some dancing involved. At least till people started asking if I was having a seizure.

My mom wrote into a contest Anne Kaelber was having on her blog, and she won me these INCREDIBLE needles! I still I can't believe I own my own set of Denise needles. I keep opening the box and petting them. They're so pretty. I'm afraid to take them out. So, so pretty...

Thank you so much Mama! I love you very much! And thank you Anne. I keep getting all teary eyed because of your generosity. I feel very blessed, very special and very loved. I can't say thank you enough.

Before and After

Before...

N21712853_30588046_4380

Here we are. Nerdy as they come. Braces, glasses, retainers, frizzy hair, giggling about boys, dreaming about cars, wishing life would go faster....

After...

12_21_2004-2-1

After three drivers licenses, two sets of contacts, three high school diplomas, two weddings, one straightening iron...we arrived at adulthood. Still friends. Still together. Still giggling about boys.

I miss my girls.

Here we have: Lorna's Shepard Sport super wash wool (I've never owned Lorna's before! I am so excited! I can't wait to start a project with it!!!), Karaoke soy silk/wool (this is incredible stuff!), and Catalina Baby Alpaca chunky (How did she know I was coveting this when I was last at Threadbear? I seriously wanted to pull it all off the shelf and take a nap in it!). I have wanted some of this baby alpaca for longer than I've been knitting! Heaven only knows why I haven't just bought some for myself, but now I have my own! Can't you see it crying out to me to be knit into a scarf??

P3240997

Kerry, thank you so much for all of the wonderful things you given me!! I can't even express how happy I am that you were my secret pal! And not just because you give wonderful gifts either =) It's because you are a truly sweet and nice person, and we must stay friends (I'm sorry that I'm horrible about responding to e-mails. Feel free to yell at me from time to time =)

Of Art Yarn & Scissor Fobs

Yesterday, I got home from Annie's late in the day and not in the best mood. For some reason, the drive home had made me very sad. Shortly after arriving home though, mom showed me what had come in the mail for me. A small package that my secret pal had sent me from a yarn seller in California, and a small package from Kimberly. Inside the package from my SP was a skein of the most gorgeous art yarn I'd even seen! It is pale pink with little glass beads and heart dangling from it. You would not believe how gorgeous this yarn is! And the package from Kimberly had a pair of scissors with a beaded fob and pouch! I've never owned art yarn OR beautiful scissors. I feel so blessed right now =D=D=D I really wanted to post pictures for everyone to see, but the pictures are on my mom's camera, and I can't find it right now. I would ask her, but I don't think she wants to be woken up ;) So, I will add the pictures in the morning (It's after 2:30am right now despite what my typepad says. It's still on Okinawa time)

Secret Pal & Kimberly: Thank you both so much. You have no idea how much your gifts blessed me. They arrived just when I needed something to cheer me up. God bless you guys =)

God bless the knitters...and nonknitters =)

For dinner tonight, what I really really wanted was chicken curry over rice. So, I was all ready to make a run to Coco's (A fabulous curry restaurant) for take out, when I remembered how bad I had felt a few nights ago after I had eaten curry. Suddenly, my stomach turned on me and chicken curry was the last thing in the world that I wanted to even be in the same room with. So, I had 2tsps of Robitussin and a can of pineapple chunks. Yummy.

I want to say thank you to all of the wonderful people who keep commenting on my blog and e-mailing me. You guys are so awesome. Thank you for being so kind. I honestly cannot express how grateful I am for each and every one of you. (And I promise to return e-mails very soon!) Y

Curcuma

Saturday afternoon we went with a bunch of my friends from The Loan Closet, and their husbands to this beautiful Thai restaurant. It took more than an hour to get there, and we had to drive part way up a small mountain, but it was worth it.

Pb190428

Pb190433

After we left it occurred to me that I never actually took any pictures of the restaurant. I just kept taking pictures of the breath taking view and local plant life.

Pb190431

Oh, and also the pleasant company (He's so cute! Even if he was totally cheating on me with the waiter dude ;)
