Internet, I kill plants.
It's not intentional, and it's hardly malicious. Mostly I love them to death, so for the majority of my adult life so far (All five years of it), I've tried to avoid keeping plants. Sure the occasional potted plant found it's way in to the house, but since their life spans were so short, they were mostly there for short term decoration.
This early this year, still riding the high from buying a house, I got it into my head that I needed a garden. Every home needs a garden! What house is home without fresh veggies? I told Mike of my wishes and after a lot of, "You're sure-s? You really wanna do this-es?" from him as well as a painful reminder of the herb garden I attempted to grow three times while pregnant, I convinced him to till up the soil and help me buy some plants, and by late April, I had a small plot of fresh soil with four tomato plants and three green peppers (I dream big. He helps keep reality reasonable ;)
Today this is what my plants look like:
After a few weeks of NOT killing them, I even grew so bold as to stick a corn seed in the ground.
That right. I have one corn plant. Jealous much? (Ignore the weeds. You see nothing!)
I am proud to say that I have successfully kept these plants and a bunch of Vincas, Celosia, and Impatients alive in our front yard (All with helpful little reminders from my husband to water them. I mean well. I swear it.)
I know that what I have accomplished here is nothing compared to what billions of other people have done, but no tomato will ever taste as sweet as this one will.
Yay! As of right now, all I have been able to keep semi-living is an Aloe plant I begged hubby to get us. I DO however want to re-pot it soon so it can grow larger. We've also discussed the idea of a container garden since we have nothing but fence and deck behind the condo. Maybe once baby comes we'll let them help us play in the dirt and make it a reality then. lol!
